Whitehall's 1930s semis have plaster on lath ceilings throughout — the lath fails after 80+ years and the plaster cracks in long lines. We board over the existing ceiling and skim, which avoids disturbing the upstairs floor and gives a flat modern finish.

Whitehall is the inner-east Bristol suburb that sits between St George and Speedwell — close enough to the city centre to be a popular commuter area, far enough east to have the working-class character of east Bristol.
