Silicone Rendering in
Fishponds

Fishponds sits along the Frome Valley in east Bristol, with a mix of 1930s semis on the older streets and larger post-war council estates towards the edges.

Fishponds has a lot of 1930s semi-detached housing along the Stapleton Road corridor, mostly with failed sand-and-cement that needs full strip-back. We see a recurring pattern here where the original render's been patched over the years and is now unsalvageable — a complete re-render is usually more cost-effective than another patch.

Silicone render is the system we'd put on our own homes. It's the best of all worlds: through-colour, so no painting ever; hydrophobic, so Bristol's driving rain beads off; breathable, so the wall can dry out; and self-cleaning, so algae and dirt don't take hold. We install silicone systems from Johnstone's, K Rend, Parex and Weber across Bristol — typically on 1930s semis where the original sand-and-cement has failed, on detached new-builds where a clean modern finish is wanted, and on commercial buildings where a 25-year maintenance-free life matters. Every silicone system we install is backed by a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and priced with a fixed written quote after a free site visit.

Fishponds is a long suburb running along the Frome Valley between Eastville and Downend. The western end (closer to the city centre) has the older 1930s semis on streets like Stapleton Road and the Frome Valley Road, while the eastern end has the larger post-war council estates — particularly the estates around the old Stapleton Road hospital and the new-build infill. Many of the council properties were re-rendered in the 1990s with acrylic systems that are now failing. We work on a lot of these — typically strip and re-render with a BBA-approved silicone system.

★★★★☆

Very good plastering work done to cover Artex ceilings. When they started it, the work was done efficiently by a friendly team. We felt like certain things could've been explained better to us, meaning I'd rate them 4/5 overall. Though I would still recommend them, as they were good overall.

Would recommend K D Plastering. When I made my initial call, I left a message and Kyran returned the call by the end of the day to arrange a house visit/quote which was efficiently done within 2 days. Really happy with the plastering that was done over the artex roof and walls. We also had a bit of outdoor rendering done to a great standard.
