Monocouche Rendering in
St George

St George is one of Bristol's most densely populated inner suburbs, just east of the city centre. The housing stock is almost entirely Victorian terraces — many of which were originally faced in lime render that's now crumbling or covered in unsympathetic paint.

The Victorian terraces in St George take monocouche well — solid brickwork, no movement, easy to get a clean scraped finish. We've done multiple terrace runs here where three or four neighbours have all specified the same K Rend colour to match.

Monocouche is a through-colour mineral render — limestone aggregate, Portland cement, pigments, and additives — applied in a single 12-18mm coat and then scraped back to expose the aggregate for a textured finish. The colour goes all the way through, so unlike paint there's no top coat to maintain. Monocouche is harder-wearing than silicone (more impact-resistant, great for parking areas and alleyways), cheaper, and gives a contemporary scraped or dragged finish that's popular on modern Bristol homes. We install Weber, K Rend and Parex monocouche across Bristol. Every install carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty and a fixed written quote after a free site visit.

St George is where Victorian Bristol meets working-class Bristol. The housing is dense — rows of terraces from the 1870s-1900s, mostly two-up two-down with rendered front elevations. Many of these were originally faced in lime render which is now failing; a significant number have been unsympathetically painted in modern masonry paint which is also failing. We work on a lot of terraces here, often coordinating across whole streets where neighbouring homeowners want consistent finishes. Listed and conservation area properties are common — Church Road and the streets around St George Park are in the St George Conservation Area, and any external alterations require consent.

What Bristol & Bath customers say

Verified reviews from recent work.

★★★★★

We recently had plastering work completed in our home and we couldn't be more impressed with the results. From start to finish, the professionalism and attention to detail were amazing. They communicated well from the initial message and whilst on the job to grasp what we wanted. The plasterer was punctual and tidy. They took great care in protecting our floors and furniture.

Sean and Kyran from KD Plastering rendered an exterior wall that had been left unfinished after a garage extension was added. They managed to work around the bad weather we had at the beginning of the year, and communicated well to let us know when they'd be round. They colour matched to the existing render perfectly - very happy!

We hired Kyran and his team to skim 3 ceilings, getting rid of artex ceilings and are really pleased with the result, the price was reasonable and communication great. The chap doing the work worked tirelessly all day and went above and beyond to get it all done in one day. The finish is neat and looks great.
