Silicone Rendering in
Redland

Redland is large Victorian and Edwardian stock: bay-fronted terraces, semi-detached villas and a lot of flat conversions. Most of what we do here is internal — re-skims after leaks, rewiring and conversions — alongside render repair on the rear elevations.

Redland's Victorian and Edwardian villas and bay-fronted terraces are mostly solid-wall construction — silicone render works but only on a breathable base. We typically specify silicone over a lime plaster base on the rendered rear elevations and returns, where planning isn't an issue. Front elevations often need conservation approval.

Silicone render is the system we'd put on our own homes. It's the best of all worlds: through-colour, so no painting ever; hydrophobic, so Bristol's driving rain beads off; breathable, so the wall can dry out; and self-cleaning, so algae and dirt don't take hold. We install silicone systems from Johnstone's, K Rend, Parex and Weber across Bristol — typically on 1930s semis where the original sand-and-cement has failed, on detached new-builds where a clean modern finish is wanted, and on commercial buildings where a 25-year maintenance-free life matters. Every silicone system we install is backed by a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and priced with a fixed written quote after a free site visit.

Redland sits between Clifton and Bishopston, and the housing is overwhelmingly late-Victorian and Edwardian: bay-fronted terraces on the streets off Redland Road, larger semi-detached and detached villas towards Redland Green, and a high proportion of houses subdivided into flats. That subdivision shapes the work. A great deal of what we are called to is internal and often urgent — a leak through a landing ceiling, a re-skim after rewiring, making good after a conversion — rather than full-property external rendering. Where external work does come up it tends to be rear elevations and returns, which on these houses are frequently rendered while the front is left as facing brick or stone. Parts of Redland fall inside conservation areas, and the stock is solid-wall throughout, so breathability matters on any external system.

Problems we fix

When Redland homeowners call us about silicone rendering

If any of these sound like your property, this is the service you want.

  • Blown, cracked or detached pebbledash from the 1970s and 80s

  • Damp patches appearing on inside walls after heavy rain

  • Algae and black mould growth on north-facing elevations

  • Repainting every 3-5 years becoming expensive and disruptive

  • Sand-and-cement render cracking along stress points after 15-20 years

  • Bare brickwork that looks dated and is hard to keep clean

  • Listed or heritage buildings needing a sympathetic modern finish

· Plastering

January 2026

★★★★★

We recently had plastering work completed in our home and we couldn't be more impressed with the results. From start to finish, the professionalism and attention to detail were amazing. They communicated well from the initial message and whilst on the job to grasp what we wanted. The plasterer was punctual and tidy. They took great care in protecting our floors and furniture.

· Plastering

February 2026

★★★★★

Sean and Kyran from KD Plastering rendered an exterior wall that had been left unfinished after a garage extension was added. They managed to work around the bad weather we had at the beginning of the year, and communicated well to let us know when they'd be round. They colour matched to the existing render perfectly - very happy!
